What a shopper sees on their phone

Most people check a market on their phone, often from the car, and your Microsoft Clarity data will show your exact share. Drag the handle to compare the first screen today with the concept.

On phones the homepage's "Visit Us" directions button is hidden, so directions take a trip to the Contact page. Checked October 20, 2026 at 375 px wide.

03 · The numbers

Google's own test, before and after

Lighthouse is the tool Google uses to grade page speed and quality. We ran it on the current homepage and on the concept, with the same simulated mid-range phone on a 4G connection.

04 · What we found

Eight things holding the site back

We crawled all 25 pages and checked 356 links and files, then tested by hand on October 19–20, 2026. The good news first: no broken links, clean redirects and solid page titles. Here's what needs work.

Heavy and slow on phones

High
  • About 14 MB and 183 requests per homepage visit. On a simulated 4G phone the main content takes 15.6–17.7 seconds to appear. Google's "good" mark is 2.5 seconds.
  • 10 MB of that is one promo video. A background banner is a 1.3 MB PNG, and there isn't a single WebP or AVIF image on the site.
  • 16 plugins load 58–67 scripts on every page, including three popup plugins and two table plugins doing overlapping jobs.

Fixed: lean pages, resized photos, nothing render-blocking. See the scores

Basics missing on the first screen

High
  • No open/closed status, no directions button on phones, and free parking is mentioned only further down.
  • The hero is a photo of the building exterior, with white text over it.

Fixed: live status, fact strip, mobile action bar. Concept home

The vendor list undersells the market

High
  • 31 vendors are listed for a market of 200+, across about 50 entries with duplicates: Batwa & Bling appears 6 times, and Binsanity under 3 spellings.
  • No search and no vendor pages. The comic shop sits under "Unique & One-Of-A-Kind Finds", not "Antiques & Collectables".

Fixed: one listing per vendor, search, filters, profiles, floor map. Try "comics"

Events are hard to find

Medium
  • Super Spookfest (October 31) sits several screens down the homepage, and ticketing lives on Eventbrite.
  • No events page or calendar. The free monthly magic club at Browser's Den is mentioned only inside a vendor description.

Fixed: a next-event strip on every page, an events page, add-to-calendar links. Concept events

Booth pricing is hard to gauge

Medium
  • Indoor booth sizes and rates aren't published. Applicants fill in a form and wait 3–4 business days.
  • The outdoor page already shows clear rates ($55 a day, $320 a month). If you'd rather not publish indoor rates, sizes and "from" prices still help.
  • Three separate form systems are in use, and the Flea Bucks form has no spam protection.

Fixed: rates up front and a three-step application. Concept sell page

Small inconsistencies that cost trust

Medium
  • Besides the five quick fixes above: the About page timeline labels the July 2023 opening as "2003", and visitor counts read "1000+" in one place and "thousands" in another.
  • Phone links use four different formats, and the email is shown as "Info@…" on 11 pages.
  • The newest of 11 blog posts is from March 5, 2025, and two pairs of posts cover the same topic.

Fixed: address, hours, phone and counts are entered once and reused on every page.

Accessibility gaps

Low
  • Lighthouse flags low-contrast text, no skip link and no main landmark on every page tested.
  • Half the homepage images have no alt text.

Fixed: strong contrast, skip link, landmarks, alt text on every photo.

Headings could work harder

Low
  • 41 H2 headings on the homepage and 76 on the vendor list, while several pages use six or more H1s.
  • Lighthouse flags generic link text such as "Read More".

Fixed: one H1 per page, clear section headings, and a page for every vendor and event for Google to find.

05 · Three weekend journeys

Fewer taps, more shoppers in the aisles

Three real tasks, counted step by step on a phone.

Sunday, 9:40am, in the car

"How do we get there?"

3→1taps
Today
  1. Open the site (the homepage directions button is hidden on phones)
  2. Tap "Contact Us" in the top bar
  3. Find "Get Directions" and tap it
With the concept
  1. Tap Directions in the bar at the bottom of every page
Saturday, a collector

"Who sells comics?"

4→2steps
Today
  1. Open Vendor List
  2. Check "Antiques & Collectables". Five Bucks Vintage mentions comics, but the comic shop isn't there
  3. Switch to "Unique & One-Of-A-Kind Finds"
  4. Scroll to The Cats Grafix Comics
With the concept
  1. Type "comics"
  2. See booths 513 and 801 & 803, highlighted on the map
Weeknight, a new seller

"Can I afford a booth?"

3–4 days→Nowto see the price
Today
  1. Open "Become a Vendor"
  2. Find no indoor sizes or prices
  3. Submit the form
  4. Wait 3–4 business days for a call to learn the cost
With the concept
  1. See booth options and rates
  2. Apply in two minutes, already knowing the price. Leasing still calls to finalise
06 · The GTA landscape

No GTA market does this yet. You could be first.

We reviewed the websites of the markets competing for the same weekend shoppers and vendors. None has a searchable vendor directory, a floor map, published booth prices or a live open status.

Borrowed from the world's best markets

07 · The business case

A booth or two covers the care plan many times over

Vendors are the market's customers too. A site that publishes prices and makes applying easy fills booths faster. Try your own numbers.

Added rent per year
$7,680
Illustrative annual care cost$1,200Covered6.4×

An illustration using your inputs, not a forecast. The $1,200 annual care cost is a historical proposal assumption, not current ALLOIC pricing. This illustration excludes the build fee and other revenue.

08 · Switching

You already have a site. Switching is the easy part.

Nothing is thrown away. Your content, your rankings and your domain carry straight over.

Every link keeps working

Each current address points to its new page, so Google, Instagram bios and old flyers still land in the right place.

/product-list/ → /vendors//want-to-be-a-vendor/ → /sell//flea-bucks-coupon/ → /flea-bucks//outdoor-market/ → /sell/outdoor/

Rankings protected

Titles, descriptions and business details carry over, and every vendor and event gets its own page for Google to find.

Same WordPress login

We can stay on WordPress and drop the heavy page builder, so your team keeps the editor they know.

Launch while you're closed

The market is closed Monday to Friday. We launch midweek, test everything, and you open Saturday on the new site.

You own all of it

Domain, hosting account, code, photos and content stay in your name. No lock-in.

Measured, before and after

You get a Lighthouse report on launch day next to today's numbers, so the improvement is on paper.

Build once, run both markets

Dr. Flea's runs on the same WordPress and Elementor setup. The templates, vendor directory and events system built here can relaunch your sister market for a fraction of the first build.

09 · The plan

Live in about five weeks

From the walkthrough to the first Saturday on the new site. The clock starts when we have the vendor list and photo access.

  1. Week 0

    Walkthrough

30 minutes on this concept. Agree scope, platform and launch date.

  2. Weeks 1–2

    Content & design

Clean up the full vendor list with booth numbers, finalise design, gather photos.

  5. Then

    Grow

Pick Phase 2 features as you see what shoppers and vendors use.

Next step

Let's walk the aisles of the new site together

How we measured. Lighthouse 13.5 in Chrome, mobile preset (simulated mid-range phone on 4G), October 20, 2026. The live homepage was run twice and both runs are shown as a range. The concept ran five times on a local server with the same settings; real hosting adds a little network time but also compression and caching, which the local server lacks. The concept carries a "do not index" tag because it's a prototype; it was removed for the test so SEO reflects the real site. Page checks were made by hand at 375 px and 1280 px wide. The concept is a design prototype: forms are demos that send nothing, the floor map is illustrative, and indoor booth rates are left for the leasing office.
